Mason City teen dies in car accident

November 13, 2006 By admin

A Mason City teen is dead after his car collided with a Union Pacific train late Saturday night. Mason City police say 17-year-old Zachary Witham was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa as a result of the accident. The accident was reported to police at about 11:48 Saturday night at the railroad crossing in the southwestern portion of Mason City.

Police say the Witham car was westbound when it apparently struck the northbound train. A passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Ian Decker of Mason City, was taken to Mercy-North Iowa where he was listed on Sunday as being in fair condition.
