A University of Iowa researcher is looking for more people to take part in his studies of problem gamblers.

Donald Black is a professor of psychiatry and medical doctor who is looking for people over the age of 18 for a series of studies. Black says he has a large grant from the government to conduct genetic studies of problem gamblers. Black interviews gamblers and their relatives and then compares that to a control group.

Black says he also has a treatment study which gives problem gamblers medication and monitors their response to the drugs. They test the neuropsychological studies to get a better sense of the thinking and memory processes of gamblers, which Black says seem to be different processes than in non-gamblers.

Black says some of the studies may simply involve filling out a questionnaire.

Black says you can find out about the studies by contacting him at 319-335-4431 or via e-mail at [email protected]. Participants in the studies are compensated for their time.
