Man who skipped out of Sioux City drug trial found in Mexico

November 28, 2006 By admin

The search is over for a man who skipped town during his federal drug trial in Sioux City.

Prosecutors say Ryan Mathison lead a major drug ring that brought cocaine, marijuana and steroids from Mexico to Iowa. Mathison sat through the first week of his trial, but then didn’t show up as the trial continued. On November 15th, a jury found his guilty of seven drug-related charges, but he was not in the courtroom when the verdict was announced.

Officials say Mathison and his girlfriend, Janelle Rodriguez, were taken into custody in a hotel in Juarez, Mexico. The pair will be turned over to U.S. Marshals and could be back in Sioux City in about two weeks. Mathison was arrested in Mexico for violating conditions of his pretrial release. His girlfriend was arrested on a material witness warrant.
