Cedar Rapids police have identified a man who was found dead Sunday after being turned away from a men’s shelter. Forty-eight-year-old Steven Howard of Cedar Rapids was found just before 11:30 Sunday morning in a back yard on the southwest side of town. Officers initially handled the case as if it were a possible homicide, however, according to police, there were no obvious signs of foul play.

Police say nothing has been ruled out yet pending results of an autopsy. Howard, an occasional resident of the Cedar House, a shelter for men, left the shelter on foot Saturday night following an argument with the staff. Howard returned to get some personal effects a short time later and then left on foot. It was the last time Howard was seen alive.
