Icy roads cited as factor in fatal Eastern Iowa crash

December 6, 2006 By admin

Icy road conditions are being cited as a factor in a fatal three-vehicle accident in Chickasaw County. The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. three miles north of New Hampton on Highway 63. According to the Iowa State Patrol, roads were 100 percent ice covered at the time.

The patrol says a northbound car driven by 19-year-old Toni Sanders of Protivin went out of control, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a van driven by 52-year-old Opal Kleckler of Milledgeville, Illinois. A semi driven by 42-year-old William Creager of Westby, Wisconsin then collided with Sander’s car. A passenger in one of the vehicle, two-year-old Wesley Williams of Protivin was killed in the accident.

Sanders and another passenger, three-year-old Raven Williams of Protivin, were taken to Mayo in Rochester. Another passenger, 23-year-old Nicole Sanders, along with the other two drivers, were treated at the New Hampton Hospital.
