Voter reject bond issue for Iowa Central Community College

December 6, 2006 By admin

Voters in nine counties across northwest and north-central Iowa narrowly rejected a bond issue for Iowa Central Community College on Tuesday. Fifty-one percent of the voters cast ballots to reject the bond issue, 49-percent favored it. The issue needed 60-percent to pass.

The ten-million dollar bond issue would have supported a six-million dollar 30-thousand square foot bioscience/health science center to house the biofuels program on the Fort Dodge campus.

Iowa Central officials now say the center will not be built. The rest of the bond would have funded the school’s ongoing capital campaign. The board will meet in January to look for alternative funding.
