Mason City will pursue charges in Huisentruit case

December 8, 2006 By admin

Mason City police say they do intend to pursue charges against the woman who provided false information in the case of Jodi Huisentruit, a local TV anchor who’s been missing for more than a decade. The woman, who has now been identified as Cindy Sweeney of Anoka, Minnesota, told authorities and a Minneapolis TV station that she had witnessed the murder as a 13-year-old runaway in 1995.

When she was re-interviewed by Mason City police on Wednesday, she recanted most of her story. Mason City Police Lt. Ron Vande Weerd says that charges are now pending against Sweeney and could be filed sometime next week. Vande Weerd says there are some jurisdictional issues that have to be sorted through first since she is in Minnesota but made her false statements in Iowa.
