Students at Maquoketa High School had a planned teacher in-service day off Wednesday, and will find police patrolling the halls today (Thursday) as they return. The extra security comes after a threatening note was found.

One of the night custodians found the threatening graffiti Monday on the restroom wall of the Maquoketa High School. The note reads: “Nothing will be the same 12/15/06” and the note includes a drawing of a stick figure that appears to be holding a weapon.

School officials notified Maquoketa police and a full scale investigation has been launched. School will be held today and tomorrow, with police officers patrolling the school both days. Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact Maquoketa police, school officials, or crime stoppers.
