Two hog confinement buildings and 23-hundred hogs were destroyed in a fire overnight in northwest Iowa near Albert City. Buena Vista County officials say the call came from an ambulance crew on their way back to Albert City. Both buildings were fully engulfed when the fire call was placed about 8 P.M.

Seven fire departments responded. The buildings were owned by First State Bank of Ida Grove and the animals were the property of Southern Pork. Two other buildings were damaged. An initial damage estimate is for 500-thousand dollars. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
