The Iowa State women open the Big-12 race at home Wednesday night against Kansas. The Cyclones enter the conference race with a 12-1 record and have won their last nine games.

Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly says they had a good non-conference season, and are now looking forward to getting the conference season going. Fennelly anticipates a hard fought league race.

Eight conference teams have two losses or fewer, and Fennelly says this is the best he’s seen the league since he’s been in Ames. Fennelly says in a balanced league race home games become even more important.

Fenelly says you have to be good at home in any major conference to have a chance to do anything. Fenelly says you want to win at home so you don’t have to go on the road to get a split. Kansas has struggled to a 5-7 mark but Fennelly says the Jayhawks will view the conference race as a chance for a fresh start.
