Last night’s (Thursday) inaugural bash in Iowa City featured legendary R-and-B singer Al Green. Governor-elect Chet Culver took the stage to introduce Green and talked about his political agenda.

Culver says "We are one Iowa and our future is unlimited and I can’t wait to be your next governor. We’re going to lift the ban on stem cell research, raise the minimum wage and achieve the greatness that we all know is possible."

University of Iowa’s interim president Gary Fethke attended the "One Iowa Gala" and made a few brief comments about Culver. Fethke says "In general, I think anytime you have a change in leadership, it’s a major event for the state so we should celebrate that and everybody should pull together to wish him the best."

Hollywood actor and Iowa native Tom Arnold was the event’s emcee and discussed getting Culver together with his friend, fellow actor and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tom Arnold says "Arnold’s asked me questions about ‘How’s Chet going to do this. How’s this alternative fuel — how do we get that set up?’ Hopefully, I’ll put you guys together. By the way, as soon as his leg heals, he wants to wrestle you. You’re the two biggest governors since Jesse (Ventura) is outta’ there." The Iowa City event followed a luncheon Thursday in Sioux City. Culver will be sworn in today (Friday) in Des Moines.
