Man charged with robbing CR bank

Cedar Rapids police arrested a man today who is believed to have robbed a bank and forced the lockdown of two schools. The man allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids this morning (Friday). The man reportedly gave the bank teller a not explaining it was a robbery, and he had a weapon, although the weapon was not shown. The man fled the bank on foot and was later spotted by the police department’s helicopter and taken into custody.

The police department issued a lockdown at Kennedy High School and nearby Pierce Elementary School for the safety of the students. The lockdowns were released after the man was arrested. The man was later identified as 19-year-old Michael Steven Knighten Junior of Cedar Rapids. He is charged with one count of second-degree robbery.
