Iowa looks for Big Ten road win

January 16, 2007 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes are on the road in the Big Ten to take on Indiana. The Hawks are 2-1 and coach Steve Alford would like to see a third scorer emerge to go along with Adam Haluska and Tyler Smith. Alford says Haluska and Smith have been consistent and they’re going through a trial and error period to find other guys who can step up and make plays.

A victory, tonight, would be the Hawkeyes first on an enemy court this season. Alford says they’ve been close, but that doesn’t get you any points. Under first year coach Kelvin Sampson the Hoosiers are 3-1 in the Big Ten after a 20-point win over Penn State. Sampson says he has spent much of this season teaching his team to compete.

Sampson says instead of trying a tricky offense, they’re just working hard on effort. He says they need to learn to compete instead of just playing hard. Sampson says a number of different players have contributed.

The Hoosiers are 12-4 overall. The Hawkeyes are 10-7.
