Loras has set the early pace in the Iowa Conference men’s basketball race. The Duhawks are 7-0 after a one point victory over Wartburg on Wednesday night. Coach Chad Walthall credits defense and rebounding are two of the factors that have helped them win seven straight games overall. Walthall says they also have been able to limit their turnovers, and all three things together have helped them win.

Not only does Loras have a two game lead on the field but the Duhawks already have beaten the teams right behind them, Buena Vista and Coe, on the road. Walthall says mathematically you eventually have to win those games on the road if you’re around long enough.

Walthall says the Duhawks don’t have a dominant player and instead focus on balance. He says they have six guys they feel can score 20 points on any given night, with each one averaging between 8 and 12 points a game. He says none of them are "star" players, but they have a lot of good players. Loras returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a visit to city rival Dubuque.
