Iowa women make big comeback but fall short

January 26, 2007 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeye women made another big comeback against Minnesota but this one fell short. Trailing by 24 points in the second half the Hawkeyes rallied to take a brief lead but the Gophers made the plays down the stretch for an 80-78 win in overtime. Iowa coach Lisa Bluder says she’s proud of the effort they made coming back, scoring 52 points in the second half. Bluder says the big question is how they got down 24 points.

After committing 11 turnovers in falling behind by 20 at the halftime break the Hawkeyes took care of the ball in the second half and that helped spark the comeback. Bluder says that gave them more opportunities to shoot the ball and they shot it well.

Iowa is now 3-5 in the Big Ten, including 0-4 at home.
