Western Iowa teen killed in accident

January 26, 2007 By admin

A western Iowa teen was killed Thursday in a single-vehicle rollover accident in Audubon County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 15-year-old Bricy Christine Sturgeon, of Audubon, died when the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe she was a passenger in rolled over one-mile south of Exira, at around seven P.M. Thursday.

Troopers say the accident happened when the driver of the Tahoe, 15-year-old Ashley Louise Wittrock, of Audubon, lost control of the SUV as she was traveling north on Lark Avenue. As the vehicle went off the west side of the road, Wittrock overcorrected.

The truck then slid across the road and entered the east ditch where it rolled once, ejecting Sturgeon, who was then pinned beneath the vehicle. Officials say was not wearing a seatbelt. Wittrock — who was wearing her seatbelt — was taken to a local hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
