Drake completes sweep of state rivals

February 9, 2007 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs completed a sweep of the state last night in Cedar Falls. The Bulldogs built a six point halftime advantage then held off several UNI rallies in second half for a 67-59 win in the McLeod Center. It is the first time Drake has gone undefeated against in-state foes since the 1970-71 season.

Senior guard Nick Grant on the postgame show on KRNT in Des Moines says it was the first road win in the conference, they swept the state. Grant says they fought through everything to the end and made the shots they needed to make. He finished with 14 points and also had a couple of steals.

Junior forward Klayton Korver had eight points and said the Bulldogs were able to meet the physical challenge. Korver says the last game gave them confidence to play in a physical game against UNI and they stayed together.

Drake is now 4-10 in the Valley and 13-12 overall. The Panthers drop to 7-7 in conference play and 16-9 overall. The Bulldogs visit Bradley tomorrow while the Panthers host Indiana State.
