Extradition proceedings underway for rural Mitchellville man

February 9, 2007 By admin

Legal proceedings are underway to bring a central Iowa man back to the state for questioning in a double-murder case. After vanishing a week ago, authorities say 52-year-old Russell Overlin of rural Mitchellville was arrested Thursday night outside a motel near Miami, Oklahoma. He was taken into custody without incident by U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement.

Overlin is sought as a material witness in the slayings of his father and step-mother. The bodies of 81-year-old Gilbert Overlin and his 71-year-old wife Naomi were found last week in a cistern on their Polk County property. The younger Overlin is being held at the county jail in Ottawa, Oklahoma, awaiting extradition.
