February 9, 2007 By admin

An Iowa soldier who died in Iraq is being remembered in his hometown of Guttenberg today. Twenty-one-year-old Army Reserve Corporal Steven Shannon was killed January 31st when his armored vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade in Iraq.

Shannon’s unit, which was based in Wasau, Wisconsin, was clearing roadside bombs. Family and friends gathered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg this morning to pay their final respects. Flags are being flown at half-staff today by order of Governor Chet Culver to honor Shannon.
