Iowan dies in South Dakota ice fishing accident

February 9, 2007 By admin

The names of two northwest Iowa ice fishermen are being released after a fatal accident on a South Dakota lake. Authorities say the body of 57-year-old Gary Book of rural Sioux City was recovered from Lake Sinai late Thursday afternoon.

Book was the driver of a pickup that went through the ice. Gary Junge of LeMars was a passenger in the truck and managed to get out before the vehicle sunk. Junge wasn’t hurt. Brookings County officials say the accident happened in deep water near a boat landing. Lake Sinai is about 11 miles west of Brookings.
