A man armed with a knife was apparently no match for a Cedar Rapids book store clerk armed with a telephone.

At about 4 p.m. Thursday a man approached a clerk at the City News and Books and displayed a knife and demanded money. The store clerk refused and the would-be robber then asked the clerk if he wanted to "get stuck" for not cooperating.

In response, the clerk held out a telephone to the robber and told him to"tell that to the cops." The robber decided to beat a hasty retreat. He was described as a small white man, about five-feet-six, wearing winter clothes.
