Drake looks to secure winning season

February 21, 2007 By admin

The last time the Drake basketball team finished with a winning season Ronald Reagan was president and the Berlin Wall was still standing. Twenty years and five coaching changes later the Bulldogs can clinch their first winning season since 1987 tonight with a victory at home over Evansville.

Drake coach Tom Davis says his goal goes beyond just a winning season, as he says he’d like to see the team play in the postseason. Davis says none of the players have had a chance to see how much fun it is to play in the postseason.

Davis says post-season is the goal of every team, though it’s nice to win a tournament, but he says getting into the postseason is something special. The Bulldogs are 15-13 and must get by an Evansville team that beat them 78-57 in their Valley opener back on December 28th.

Davis says Evansville dominated the game in every fashion in the first meeting and have good inside and outside play. The Bulldogs are 5-11 in the Valley. Evansville is 6-10 in the conference and 14-14 overall.
