Wright County sheriff’s deputies had a high-speed chase last night that began in Eagle Grove. During the pursuit, deputies say people threw several items out of the car. The pursuit covered several miles in rural Wright County with speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour.

Officers put down "stop sticks," which halted the car so quickly, the pursuing vehicle ran into it, though nobody was hurt. The drive of the vehicle, 42-year-old Gene Leonard Smith of Eagle Grove was arrested and charged with eluding officers, drug dealing, and using a person under the age of 18 to distribute a controlled substance.

A passenger from Latimer was also charged with distribution, and with interfering with official acts, and a teenage girl from Fort Dodge was taken to the North Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Waterloo.
