Championship night wrestling tickets are tough to pin down

February 23, 2007 By admin

The Iowa High school wrestling tournament is known for being the biggest in the country and so far this years tournament has kept up with that tradition as large crowds have packed the Wells Fargo Arena for the first two days of competition.

Alan Beste of the Iowa State High School Athletic Association says there’ll be about 89,000 paid admissions by the time all is said and done. Beste says that is about 15,000 more than any other state tournament. If you have a ticket for Saturday night’s championship session than you are one of the lucky ones. Beste says demand far exceeds supply for the final night.

Beste says they have 13,700 seats and requests for about 22,000 tickets. Beste says "it’s a nice problem to have," and he wishes they were able to let more people in. Beste says there is no venue that can hold all the fans who would like to see the championship matches in person. Beste says he thinks people would fill a 25,000 seat arena if they had one. Beste says championship night at the wrestling tournament may be the toughest ticket to get in the state of Iowa.
