Truckers head to parking lots to wait out storm

March 3, 2007 By admin

One more problem blamed on this week’s biggest storm yet — no place to put the big rigs pulled off Iowa’s roads. The big commercial truck stops that normally cater to them are having to turn away business.

So officers directing traffic off the highways in central Iowa are sending the rigs to a Sam’s Club, the west Des Moines campus parking lot of Des Moines Area Community College, and Living History Farms.

With blowing and drifting not expected to relent till late Saturday there’s little hope any will have a chance to complete their highway trips.
