The Class 1A semifinals continued at the girls’ state basketball tournament. In a matter of 20 seconds Allyson Gross turned things around for WCLT. The senior guard had a flurry of five points in overtime to give the Tigers the lead for good in a 68-59 victory over Highland. Trailing 60-58, Gross canned her only three pointer of the game with just under three minutes remaining in overtime and seconds later added a layup as the Tigers posted a victory in their first ever appearance at the tournament.

It spoiled a furious comeback by Highland. Trailing 50-37 with six and a half minutes remaining the Huskies finished regulation on a 17-4 run to force the extra session. Kristi Branham led the comeback for Highland. She scored eight points in the fourth quarter and her two free throws with 15 seconds remaining tied the score at 54. Branham led Highland with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Stacey Shutjer led WCLT with 24 points and 24 rebounds. The Tigers will try to avenge their only regular season loss when they take on Graettinger-Terril in the 1A semifinals.
