The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a Sunday night stabbing at a convenience store in Adair.

Following a 9-1-1 call, Adair County Law Enforcement and rescue personnel responded to the scene and discovered 52-year old Leon W. Jessen, of Stuart, suffering from an apparent single stab wound. Jessen was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, where a report on his condition was not available late Monday evening.

During the investigation, authorities learned Jessen had been stabbed during an altercation that had taken place prior to the 9-1-1 call, at 506 Cedar Street in Adair. A suspect was identified, and early Monday morning, officials arrested 42-year old Jeffrey John Godron, of Adair.

Godron was taken into custody without incident and charged with attempted murder. He was taken to the Adair County jail, and is currently being held on $32,500 bond.
