Drake women pull off tourney title, NCAA bid

March 12, 2007 By admin

A season marked by injury and illness for the Drake women now has a championship. Kelsey Keizer’s three pointer in overtime proved to be the game winner as the Bulldogs completed an unlikely run through the Missouri Valley Conference with a 65-64 win over Creighton, their fourth win in as many days.

Drake coach Amy Stephens on her post game show on KRNT in Des Moines called it unbelievable, "What might warriors. What a story, what a sports story." The Bulldogs had to rally in the second half when they trailed by as many as 11 points.

Stephens says her team wanted it more and "defended out butts off" in the last eight minutes and overtime.  The Bulldogs find out tonight where they will playing in the NCAA Tournament.
