Man arrested in Storm Lake after asking for charity

March 12, 2007 By admin

A man who asked for help from the Salvation in Army in northwest Iowa turned out to be a wanted fugitive.

Storm Lake police say 50-year-old Jose Ramirez Guzman stopped at the police station and claimed to have no money. He told police he needed to get in touch with the Salvation Army to help him stay in a motel overnight.

But they ran a background check on him, and turned up a contempt-of-court warrant on a drunk driving charge, so he was arrested. While they were booking Guzman, they found he had a thousand dollars cash in his possession . He was able to post his 750-dollar bond, and he was released.
