Traffic stop leads to big pot bust in Creston

March 13, 2007 By admin

It’s the biggest drug bust in the southwest Iowa town of Creston in years. The driver of a pickup was pulled over for erratic driving late Sunday night, and inside the truck, Creston Police Chief Jamie Christensen says officers found a pile of pot.

Christensen says: "Inventory of the vehicle identified 23 individually packaged bricks of marijuana. Total weight of the bricks was 465 pounds. The estimated street value is over $500,000."

The chief credits the bust to sharp officers from his department and the Iowa State Patrol for doing the investigative work on the case. The driver, a man from Illinois, is jailed. Robert Apodaca is being held in the Creston Union County Jail on a $130,325 dollar bond.
