Forty-six counties in Iowa have received presidential disaster declarations. On Wednesday the White House declared a major disaster exists in the state of Iowa, based on the severe winter storms from February 23 through the second of March. Governor Culver declared finally that all 99 counties were state disaster areas, and the presidential declaration for about half the state will enable some recovery funding for local governments and nonprofits.

The Federal Emergency Management agency says more designations may still be made, as damage assessments come in. Counties listed: Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Calhoun, Cedar, Chickasaw, Clinton, Des Moines, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Greene, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Henry, Howard, Humboldt, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Marion, Mitchell, Muscatine, Pocahontas, Poweshiek, Story, Tama, Van Buren, Wapello, Washington, Winnebago, Winneshiek, Worth, and Wright
