Democratic sources say former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack will endorse Hillary Clinton for president Monday during a campaign stop in Des Moines. Vilsack ended his own presidential bid last month saying he couldn’t raise the money to keep it going. Vilsack then began fielding calls from fellow Democrats seeking his endorsement. Vilsack said he wasn’t ready yet to endorse someone.

Sources close to the former governor say the review is now over, and Vilsack will sign on with New York Senator Hillary Clinton on Monday. Clinton’s campaign will not confirm the endorsement but do say they have a major announcement planned.

As a national candidate, Vilsack never attracted enough attention to rival Clinton or Illinois Senator Barack Obama. But his endorsement ahead of Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses could prove beneficial. His wife Christie’s endorsement of John Kerry right before the 2004 caucuses is often credited with helping Kerry win Iowa.
