Seven top principals and administrators from schools across Iowa are being singled out for recognition by the Des Moines-based group, School Administrators of Iowa. Clarion Goldfield Middle School principal Steve Haberman is among the honorees as he’s being named Iowa’s Middle School Principal of the Year.

Haberman was nominated in the fall and went though the interview process, saying he was hesitant because it’s not an individual but the team that makes a school a success. Haberman says he was thrilled to learn he’d won and dedicated the award to his students and staff.

Haberman and the other winners will be recognized in May at a Statehouse event in Des Moines, and with a trip to Washington D.C. in the fall. The other winners are: Superintendent – Dwight Pierson of Forest City; Assistant Secondary Principal – Nancy Ferdig of Sioux City; Secondary Principal – Jerry Arganbright of Iowa City; Arts – Melissa Gilbert of Cedar Rapids; while the winners for Elementary Principal and Central Office have yet to be determined.
