Emergency phone service knocked out in Johnson County cities

March 28, 2007 By admin

Emergency phone service has been restored to two Johnson County communities after an accident knocked out service for nearly seven hours Tuesday. The traffic accident happened in Tiffin at about 12:20 Tuesday afternoon. The accident damaged a fiber optic cable that disrupted 9-1-1 as well as long distance services to Iowa Telecom customers in Solon and Tiffin.

Those residents were only able to call other Iowa Telecom customers in the same exchange. Crews were able to restore complete phone service to Solon and Tiffin about seven p.m. No other details on the accident were released.
