Tornadoes reported in Eastern Iowa

April 2, 2007 By admin

Several tornadoes were reported in eastern Iowa this weekend. One twister near Oelwein destroyed a barn, a garage, a machine shed, and a windmill in Fayette County, at the Glen and Michelle Loucks farm early Saturday evening. Michelle and her children were home at the time, but no one was injured.

The National Weather Service could not confirm that it was a tornado and no trained weather spotter saw the twister, but a member of the public did report it as a tornado. There was also damage to farms north of that area, which may have been caused by straightline winds. Twenty cows were killed in Delaware County when a tornado touched down, destroyed a machine shed and a dairy barn before moving into Clayton County Saturday evening.

Tornadoes were also reported on the ground in Benton, Iowa, and Keokuk counties Saturday afternoon. There was also a confirmed sighting of a tornado in nearby Grant county, Wisconsin. No injuries were reported.
