Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards says Democrats in Congress need to call the president’s bluff on an Iraq war spending bill. President Bush has threatened to veto the bill because it includes a timeline for a troop withdrawal from Iraq.

"Elections have consequences and a lot of us worked very hard to get Democrats elected to the House and Senate in this past election," Edwards says. "If (Bush) vetoes it and sends it back to the congress, they ought to send back another bill that funds the troops and sets timetables for leaving Iraq." Edwards made that declaration last night during a town hall meeting in Cedar Rapids.

Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, are campaigning together in Iowa — their first trip to the state since the couple revealed Mrs. Edwards’ cancer had returned and spread to her bones.
