Nortwestern picks up where they left off last season

April 5, 2007 By admin

A strong finish to the 2006 season has carried over to this year for the Northwestern College baseball team. The Raiders are off to an 18-6 start overall and stand 4-2 in Great Plains Conference action. Northwestern coach Brian Wede is in his second season at the helm.

Last year they were 4-10 in the conference and then won their last six games and had a good run in the tournament. Wede says they started off hot down in Florida, winning a tournament, and then things have carried over.

Wede says experience has been a major plus for this team, as many of the guys are starters from last year. They have their number one, two and three pitching in number of innings pitched in the conference last year. And he says they have a new pitcher who is 4-0.

Northwestern opened the season by winning a tournament down in Florida and Wede says that helped set the tone for the season. He says they continually preach winning and it was fortunate that they were able to do that. Northwestern returns to conference play this weekend against Sioux Falls on Friday.
