The Iowa Department of Transportation will temporarily close driver’s license stations across the state Thursday to upgrade the computer system. DOT spokesman Terry Dillinger says this is more than a minor upgrade. Dillinger says they’re replacing all the programs for the driver’s license system, both the records system and the system used to issue licenses.
Dillinger says the upgrade will require them to shut down the system through the weekend. He says they’ll close the station Thursday evening and should be back up Tuesday morning, with some county treasurers opening their license sites Monday. Dillinger says there won’t be any change in the actual driver’s licenses.
Dillinger says one thing you will notice is that instead of having your photograph taken last, now they’ll take your photography right away. Dillinger says you should act now if you need a new license. Dillinger says if your 60-day license grace period is going to expire, you should probably get in before Thursday. All driver’s license stations will close at 5 p.m. Thursday.
