A former western Iowa church counselor was arrested over the weekend on sexual exploitation charges. According to the Audubon County Sheriff’s Department, 33-year-old Joel Arnold Duvall of Audubon was taken into custody Saturday.

Duvall faces two counts of sexual exploitation by a counselor following an investigation into communications between him and a minor. Sheriff Todd Johnson would not comment on the child’s gender or which church Duvall had been associated with while the alleged activities were taking place. Duvall is alleged to have had a sexual relationship with the minor during a period that began last year and continued through March of this year.

Duvall was held in the Audubon County Jail until he appeared before a magistrate, and later released. In the meantime, he’s been ordered not to have contact with the child. A preliminary hearing on the charges has been set for April 26th.
