Boys night out results in serious charges

April 10, 2007 By admin

A Des Moines-area man is now jailed after a boys’ night out ended in a fatal pickup truck crash last month.

West Des Moines Police Lieutenant Jeff Miller says 26-year-old Jason Hosler of Norwalk turned himself in last night following the roll-over wreck that killed an Ohio man.

Miller says Hosler was driving drunk. "We just recently received results from the DCI Crime Lab, the results that his alcohol content was over the legal limit. So with that information, we went ahead and filed charges of OWI first and then homicide by vehicle," the policeman says.

The crash happened at about 1 a.m. on February 18th. "There was a Chevrolet Silverado. There were six guys in the Silverado. They were going out to a local establishment called Beach Girls and as they were going down the private drive," Miller says.  "They lost control, rolled over an embankment and one of the occupants died in the crash. One other person was injured. Jason Hosler, the operator, was uninjured."

Police won’t comment about Hosler’s blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash. "All we will say is that it was over the legal limit. We will not release the exact numbers," Miller says.

Timothy Green from Pataskla, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hosler was being held at the Dallas County Jail, pending a court appearance.
