Six people were killed in two separate crashes on Iowa’s snow-covered roads Wednesday morning, the state’s single-deadliest day for accidents in four years. Authorities say a car went out of control on a slushy Sac County bridge, colliding with a semi-truck and killing the car’s 17-year-old driver and two classmates. They were headed for Schaller Crestland High School in the town of Early.

Killed were: driver Cody Claussen, his 15-year-old stepbrother Samuel Collier and 16-year-old Anthony Clark. Also, a Des Moines woman and her two young sons were killed in a Dallas County crash. Troopers say 36-year-old Tracy Asher lost control of her car, hit another and was killed, along with her boys Lucas and Matthew, ages two and six. A third son, four-year-old Jacob, survived. The two people in the other car were in critical condition.
