We usually hear about train derailments out in rural areas, not in the downtown of Iowa’s largest city, but that’s what happened this morning. Des Moines police Sergeant Todd Dykstra says a main road in the capitol city’s downtown is temporarily closed due to the railway mishap.

He says the engine portion of the train came off the tracks in the 15-hundred block of Martin Luther King Boulevard, tying up through traffic, although officers are trying to reroute the dozens and dozens of cars. Dykstra says no one was hurt in the derailment. It could be several hours before MLK is open again.
