Harkin hosts hearing on farm bill

April 14, 2007 By admin

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin is teaming up with Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson for a farm bill field hearing this today. Harkin says one of the things they’ll talk about is funds for rural development going to urban areas. Harkin says the funds should go to the areas that need it and are really rural.

Harkin says he’s going to see what he can do in the farm bill to address it. Harkin, a Democrat, says the way funds are spent depends on who is in control of those funds. He says it depends on who is the administrator, and how the administrator choses to hand out the funds. Senators Harkin and Nelson will be in Council Bluffs at Iowa Western Community College’s Arts Center Auditorium from 9:30 until 11:30 today.
