Body found in Grinnell confirmed as missing student

April 17, 2007 By admin

The body found in a Grinnell swimming pool on Monday is that of a missing college student. Grinnell police say dental records have confirmed the remains to be that of missing Grinnell College student Paul Shuman-Moore. The 19-year-old was reported missing on September 25th.

According to a statement released by the state Division of Criminal Investigation, "there is no compelling evidence to indicate foul play." The young man’s parents, Steve Moore and Betsy Shuman-Moore, issued a written statement, saying they had they "hoped and prayed" for the past six months that their son would be found alive. The couple said they are "devastated" by the news that their son is dead. They thanked Grinnell area residents who helped in the search for their son, but asked to be allowed to grieve in private.

The Grinnell College sophomore was last seen September 25 on the Grinnell campus. His roommate found a suicide note.
