Former Iowan among victims at Virginia Tech

April 18, 2007 By admin

A former Iowan is among the 33 victims of Monday’s massacre at Virginia Tech University. A partial list of the deceased posted on the school newspaper’s website includes Cedar Rapids native Brian Bluhm. "The Collegiate Times" says Bluhm was a 25-year-old graduate student who was working towards a degree in civil engineering.

Bluhm was two weeks away from receiving his master’s degree when he died in the worst shooting massacre in modern U.S. history. Bluhm grew up in Marion, then moved with his family to suburban Detroit. He also lived in Louisville, Kentucky, before moving to Virginia. During his time in Detroit, Bluhm became an avid Tigers fans. The team mentioned him by name before a moment of silence at Comerica Park last night.

Several sources say Bluhm was a frequent blogger, and often left posts about the Tigers on the internet. He co-founded the website, Motownsports.com. A tribute to Bluhm on the website has more than 23-hundred views. Bluhm has family and friends in Eastern Iowa. His grandparents, Gerald and Stelah Bluhm, live in Waterloo.
