Dental records confirm, the body found in a Grinnell swimming pool Monday was 19-year-old Grinnell College student Paul Shuman-Moore, who vanished in September. Police say foul play is not suspected. Tom Crady is the college’s vice president for student services and says they’re concerned and saddened.

Crady says: “It’s extremely difficult to get news like this. We know that it does bring closure to Paul’s family and we think that that is important. Obviously, this is not the outcome we had hoped for.” He says students, staff and faculty on campus are upset.

Crady says: “I talked to many students who are not feeling well about this. Obviously, this combined with the shootings at Virginia Tech, students are concerned about that incident and wanting to make sure that people know that we’re concerned about the officials at that institution as well. So, the news of Paul being found plus that particular incident has been very, very hard on members of our campus.”

Crady says counseling is available. Last night, a candlelight vigil was held after group meetings with counselors. Investigators say it isn’t clear if Shuman-Moore got into the covered pool at Grinnell Country Club on purpose or by accident.
