Iowa’s governor has asked the feds to approve low-interest loans for businesses hard-hit by this year’s blizzard. Governor Chet Culver has filed the paperwork, asking for what’s called an "Economic Injury Disaster Declaration" from the Small Business Administration.

The S.B.A. is a federal agency which makes loans, and if the governor gets his wish, small businesses in 13 Iowa counties would be eligible for lower-interest S.B.A. loans. Culver’s asking for assistance to cover storm-related damages that occured in small businesses between February 23rd and March 2nd.

The 13 counties covered by the governor’s request are: Bremer, Crawford, Grundy, Hardin, Iowa, Jasper, Mahaska, Marshall, Mitchell, Poweshiek, Scott, Shelby, and Washington.
