Wartburg and Luther meet for first place in Iowa Conference

April 23, 2007 By admin

There is a first place showdown in the Iowa Conference baseball race on Tuesday when Luther visits ten time defending champion Wartburg. Luther currently has the conference lead. The Norse are 13-1 and coach Brian Gillogly’s team is riding a 12 game winning streak.

He says they’re hitting the ball, playing good defense and have built some confidence. Wartburg is a half game behind in the league race with a record of 13-2. Gillogly says he has all the respect in the world for Wartburg and says they have the tradition on their side. He says both teams have always been rivals, and his team is just glad to be in a position to win a conference title.

Gillogly says no matter what happens on Tuesday there is a long ways to go in the conference race with nine games left. He says that’s a large part of the schedule and they have to keep focus throughout. Luther is 21-5 overall. Wartburg is 21-8.
