Crews are on the scene of a gas leak on the west side of Spencer. Aquila Energy spokesman Jim Anderson says a car got through a barricade and clipped the gas line feeding the meter at the Veridian Limited plant. He says a construction crew will have to dig to place a bypass line to make repairs.

He says gas is still leaking but the area has been evacuated. Anderson describes this as a controlled situation. The Veridian plant and Lakes Machine are the only two affected businesses. Their staffs are not being allowed in to work.

A deputy State Fire Marshal says other operations in the industrial park area are operating normally. Anderson thinks it could take around four hours to completely finish the repairs.
