Top White House officials will be visiting eastern Iowa soon on a quest to prevent more campus killings. After last week’s deadly rampage at Virginia Tech, Bush administration leaders are announcing plans to visit the University of Iowa and a half-dozen other college campuses across the U.S. that have seen fatal shootings.

In 1991, a U-of-I grad student shot and killed five people on the Iowa City campus before killing himself.  The Bush cabinet officials who’ll be visiting include: Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and the secretaries of Education and Health and Human Services. They’ll meet with educators, law officers and civic leaders to better plot how to prevent future incidents.
